US teachers enlist in the army to stay safe

Record numbers of US teachers are quitting education to enlist in the armed forces, wanting a less violent and hostile work environment.

With news that the Trump White House will start funding firearms training for teachers, the number of enquiries to the army, navy and air force recruitment office skyrocketed today.

Teachers have quoted lower mortality rates and improved quality of life as reasons for the career change.

“I just want to get a government job that comes with fewer risks, you know?” said one math teacher from Florida.

“I hope they send me somewhere with a healthier work life balance, like Baghdad. That would be such a nice change of pace from the US.”

The army offers many things totally lacking from current US schools, including adequate funding, the support of lawmakers and of course, education.
